What is Big Heart World?

Sparkler launched Big Heart World in April 2021 in partnership with Noggin, which was at the time the early learning arm of Nickelodeon. The impetus for Big Heart World was the COVID pandemic — which was having a deep impact on children’s wellness, development, and interaction with one another — but our goal was broader: Building a generation of caring changemakers and active citizens by growing children’s “big hearts.” With our partners — including the National Head Start Association, First Book, School Library Journal, Bright By Text, the Campaign for Grade Level Reading, Start Early, Apple Tree, and others — we created and shared content designed to help parents, caregivers, and educators boost children’s social-emotional skills.

Big Heart World centers on the following themes:

  • Me: identity, feelings, and similarities and differences
  • You: friendship, perspective taking, problem solving
  • Us: helping, upstanding, global citizenship

As the pandemic ended and life returned to normal, some of the content lost relevance — but much of it remained relevant. We’ve transported those social-emotional learning resources here to Sparkler’s website!
