Feelings Unit (Littles)
Lesson 7: Feelings Party
Lesson Goals
- Reviewing ideas from the unit
- Celebrating all of the feelings
Lesson Description
Students will review Unit 1 of Us Time, in which they learned about feelings and how to manage them.
Lesson Plan: Feelings Party (Review)
Play "Us Time" Song
Open Us Time with the “Us Time” song. Sing it together or play the video.
Review Agreements
Agreements are rules that people decide, together, to follow such as:
- Paying attention to each other;
- Keeping our hands to ourselves; and
- Giving everyone a turn to speak.
In each session, discuss agreements, add to them, modify them, and recommit. Students can raise their hands or say “I agree” to show that they agree.
Discussion: Feelings Party
Today we are having a FEELINGS PARTY! Let’s discuss:
- What do we remember about feelings?
- How many feelings can we name (and dance?)
- What can help when we have big feelings, like angry or sad?
- How do we share each other’s feelings? What helped Grumpy Monkey?
Activity: Feelings Crowns
With art supplies, paper bags, or other classroom materials, let’s create our own feelings crowns.
- Have children choose one feeling to represent on their crown.
- Support children as they decorate paper crowns with markers/crayons and other art supplies to represent their feeling. What colors will they use? What textures? Children may choose to draw a feelings face or represent their feeling more abstractly.
- When finished, take turns sharing. Can they use their face to match the feeling on the crown?
Movement: Dance Our Feelings
Let’s have a feeling dance party:
- Dance to the “Dance Your Feelings” song.
- Dance to the “How You Feel” song.
Closing Discussion
As we keep doing Us Time in our classroom, we will keep learning about new things!
But what we have learned in our feelings unit will keep coming up: We will keep talking about the feelings, how to manage emotions, and how to identify NEW feelings!
Thank You: Share the Us Time Closing Song
Conclude with “Thank You,” the Us Time “goodbye” song. This song marks the end of Us Time. Invite children to share what they want to say “thank you” for! Find the song online at playsparkler.org/UsTimeSongs.
